I find this book hard to review. A lack of research into the way people with disabilities have been treated historically as well as issues surrounding deaf education led to some historical inaccuracy. Having worked with the deaf community, I can say that the likelihood of things unfolding they way they are in the book is slim to none. I'm a stickler for historical accuracy, and that drove me nuts. There are some things I like about this book. Her style of storytelling is very nice, and the plot was kinda interesting. I just can't get past the historical inaccuracy. I was all set to give this book 5 stars until I got to the end, which made no sense. When the two main characters get married, she asks her husband if they can get to know each other more before consummating the union. They sleep in same bed, and kiss, but not once does it say that they made love. Well, she gets kidnapped, beaten, starved, etc before getting found and 3 days later, she is fully recuperated and with child. What?!? She either got pregnant within 3 days while being half dead or they made love sometime in prior several weeks, but then she should have lost it when she got kidnapped! So first rating, cuz I otherwise really enjoyed this book.
What do You think about Highland Blessings (2010)?
So much drama! But it was a fairly good read.
