Hollys Weihnachtszauber (2013) - Plot & Excerpts

After I'd finished reading it yesterday, I rated it 2 stars.Today however, I have changed that rating to 3 stars. It wasn't a majorly eventful book, and I can't say constantly reading about cooking particularly interests me so that's why I initially gave it 2. Also many of the side characters annoyed me a little bit and I wished they had've been a bit more lovable. I would also have preferred Jude to have more page-time than he actually did, considering he was the love interest.BUT despite any flaws, I find my thoughts do keep drifting back to this book. Something about it obviously struck a cord with me.Whether it was the fantastic house and the wonderful snowy scenes, Merlin the adorable dog or the tension between Holly and Jude, I don't know. Probably a mix of everything.Sure, the ending felt a bit anti-climactic to me, I didn't particularly like how the love-story ended (or rather, how their relationship officially began) but at least it was the happy ending I'd hoped for.The sub-plot of Holly's grandmother and the mysterious Ned Martland she writes about in her journals is very interesting and I loved reading how that unfolded even though it was predictable and the book could have progressed fine without any of it. This was the first Trisha Ashley book I read. I'm not a great fan of romance but occasionally I feel a soppy need to read something like this. I thought the humour in this rather lame but the book was saved by the fab heroine: it isn't often that a female character has the ability to stand up for herself, to snap back when a bloke snaps at her. I'm tired of woman-as-victim type romances, the ones full of misunderstanding and unspoken truths. This heroine does not hold back - and for that, my review gets an extra star.I read this in early Autumn and it made me LONG for Christmas! Seriously yummy food descriptions! As well as seriously yummy hero! Where does Trisha find these guys?!
