Horses Never Lie About Love: The Heartwarming Story Of A Remarkable Horse Who Changed The World Around Her (2011) - Plot & Excerpts
I enjoy reading books about horses, so when I was visiting an independent book store, this book caught my eye. Ms. Harris painted a vivid picture of the difficulties one faces when breeding horses (something I know nothing about), especially in a rural area of Western Washington state where there are fluctuations in weather and temperature. Being a novice horse rider, I am amazed how much training has to be accomplished before a horse can be ridden safely and comfortably. Ms. Harris chronologizes this succinctly. This book is a quick and enjoyable read. I hope Ms. Harris writes a sequel. Does she make some mistakes in horse ownership? Yes, even ones that I (as a relative novice) could see. But the way the book so completely centers on the horses, with minimal extraneous detail about her personal life, makes it one of the better equine memoirs I've read. The writing was beautiful, each animal given a clear personality, and I got to live a lifetime vicariously raising and caring for horses in the few hours I spent reading this. It was a wonderful escape.
