Huck: The Remarkable True Story Of How One Lost Puppy Taught A Family - And A Whole Town - About Hope And Happy Endings (2010) - Plot & Excerpts

So drawn out to the point of boring and so unbelievable in parts - no real intimicy was created with the characters and the book kept on being tied up with completely irrelevant details at so many points, like sunglasses, Tampa, and long descriptions of people who had no real relevancy. The author really needs to understand what a reader wants to read and pass the image she has into her mind into words that the reader can relate to and creates emotional thoughts. I'm a sucker for animal stories, especially true ones, so when I saw this on the sale shelf for only $5 I couldn't resist! It was a very easy read, which was perfect for me at this point in the year as I'm very busy at work and don't have a lot of time for reading. Also, you know they're going to find the dog so there's no real drive to find out how it ends... Not always a good thing in a book, but for me right now it was exactly what I needed! It's a simple story of how a dog came into their lives, and the scary reality of how quickly they almost lost him, with a huge focus on the incredible kindness you can find in strangers. I really enjoyed how Elder found out the back story of the random strangers who came into their lives while they searched for Huck, and gives us a glimpse into who they are. It becomes more a story of the kind of good people that really do exist in the world, as opposed to just a tale of a little dog who is lost and found.
