Hundert Namen (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

Recommended to all writers, or writer-to-be. =) It's a story of Kitty Logan, a journalist who inherited a list of one hundred names - with no other clues; no outline, no explanation - and how she went through the task given to her just before the deadline. This is actually my first attempt to read Ahern's piece. It was good, well-written. Looking forward to reading another novel of her soon. Kitty (a journalist) trying to make sense of why her mentor, boss and friend Constance (editor-in-chief of Etcetera magazine) has to suffer. Visiting her in hospital, Kitty asks if there was a story she never got a chance to write. Constance has a file in her office that she wants Kitty to bring so that she can share her idea. But before Kitty is able to return to the hospital with the file, Constance loses her battle. Now Kitty must write the story which will be the main article in a tribute to Constance's life. The last story Kitty chose to follow pretty much ended her promising career, and now she has one last chance to redeem herself. The only clues she has for Constance's story is a list of one hundred names. She tirelessly attempts to link the names and work out how or why Constance created the list - surely they must have something in common. But with her deadline quickly approaching, Kitty has to come up with something. The characters she meets along the way each have an interesting life story, and Kitty soon realizes that they have nothing in common other than Constance wanting to prove a point - that a great journalist can find a story anywhere, and she believed in Kitty's ability to finish what she was unable to do earlier.
