Hungry Monkey: A Food-Loving Father's Quest To Raise An Adventurous Eater (2009) - Plot & Excerpts
I have to agree with some of the other goodreads reviewers that this guy comes off sounding a bit pretentious... which annoyed me at times and made it hard to keep reading. BUT, I enjoy reading about food and about kids, so there was enough there to keep me turning the pages. It was interesting to see how a foodie stay-at-home-dad influences his little girl... and most of the recipes sounded tasty! I read this after our son was already 4 and a good hungry monkey, I wished I had read it earlier, I would have tried more adventurous foods!I enjoyed the personal stories and will try some of the recipes, but above all else you see that kids' aren't robots and their attitude will ebb and flow and the more you learn to roll with it, the better off you'll be.I definitely laughed out loud at some of the author's jokes, it was an amusing, light hearted and informative read. Makes me want to get back into the kitchen and work with my little chef on stuff other than "mix the flour and sugar together" - it'll make a mess, but the chance for him to learn earlier in life about the joys and value of cooking and providing for his friends and family is worth it.
