I Can Barely Take Care Of Myself: Tales From A Happy Life Without Kids (2013) - Plot & Excerpts
As someone who is also "child-free by choice," I found myself nodding with familiarity at many of Jen Kirkman's tales of living in a world where many people still look askance if you don't want kids. Her writing is funny and fluid, though it sometimes leans heavily on preaching to the choir. (And if you're familiar with Kirkman's stand-up or her podcast, you've likely heard a few of the stories related in the book before.) Still, Kirkman manages to impress overall with humor and poignancy. First of all, Jen Kirkman is my favorite comic & podcaster! I LUV HER SO MUCH!*cough*Okay. The book is filled with funny stories and rants about Jen's (AWESOME) family, her life, her choices and how society treats women that don't want kids. It's full of great lines to quote but I really like this from the last chapter: "Parents talk a lot about how much strength and dedication it takes to raise a child. It does. It also takes a lot of strength and dedication to carve out a life that doesn't seem normal to anyone else."I can't wait for her 2nd book. :)
What do You think about I Can Barely Take Care Of Myself: Tales From A Happy Life Without Kids (2013)?
I kinda felt like Jen Kirkman said all the things I think to myself all the time.
