I Want It Now! A Memoir Of Life On The Set Of Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory (2011) - Plot & Excerpts

This was a fun and fairly interesting book. The author, most famous for the role she played as Veruca Salt, widely recognized that this was the central event of her story; she provides just enough biography of the rest of her life to give this context. It was a little tedious at times, and there isn't much intrigue to what happened— so it's not a scandal-breaker or salacious in any way. She shares a number of pictures, many of them "behind the scenes" shots, and that adds a lot; however, she reveals a lot through the captions to these photos, leaving the narrative a hit choppy. It was a good book for the gym, and a light read (nothing profound to be learned here). I loved the original Roald Dahl Charlie and the Chocolate Factory film as a child. I loved Julie as a spoilt brat singing "I want it Now" and was intrigued to know where she is now and how did she get the part. This books takes the reader through Julie's life as a child and as a child actor and focuses on the film the actors and the charactors. She paints a vivid bittersweet notstalgic look at the making of this film we all loved a children and her realtionships with the actors. The book explores the reunions too. This was a lovely book to read in one go on my sunbed this holiday in Mexico.
