This book is about a woman who suffers from withdrawal after deciding to quit taking Valium cold turkey. The effects of this withdrawal plunges her into a hard mental health system in the mid 70s. She finally gets the help she needs and fights to get her life back.I liked the book because it was a real honest look into her life. You felt for her and the things she had to go through to find the right way to come back from all the horrible. I really enjoyed the first half of the book--an odd thing to say considering the author spirals completely out of control in the first half, but it definitely held my attention and kept me turning pages. The second half got pretty boring. I found myself skimming, interested enough to want to know about her recovery and re-entry into the real world, but not interested enough to read every word. The end could have been condensed some. It is a remarkable story that exposed tranquilizer abuse back when it was first published, but still found it about 100 pages too long.
What an AWFUL cover for this book! Not the cover on my copy certainly.

kind of outdated, and also too slow-going
