I'm The Best Artist In The Ocean! (2008) - Plot & Excerpts
This was a surprising find for me in the reshelf pile at the library today. Unfortunately it wasn't quite as engaging as Sherry's first book, I'm the Biggest Thing in the Ocean. The illustrations are still good, but the joke isn't nearly as funny and I think why DS fell so in love with the first book was that the idea of being big or wanting to be the biggest to a toddler is very real. I'll still look out for other books by him in the future, but I'll probably buy the first book and not this one. I'm a HUGE fan of I'm the Biggest Thing in the Ocean, the prequel to this book. I was hoping that the quirky giant squid would capture my imagination again. Fortunately, I was not disappointed. I can relate to the grouchy shark who shouts "NO" to the creative, masterpiece creating, messy squid. (I have a couple of the human versions of "messy squid" in my home.) I'm the Best Artist in the Ocean reminds me to have patience with the creative juices flowing in my little squids.
What do You think about I'm The Best Artist In The Ocean! (2008)?
I'm doing this to see how long it takes you and I to get to 100 books. My guess is not long at all.

Very simple story but a fun introduction to different art styles. Funny fish and cute pictures.

Giant squid + drawing = a great book, with bright colors and lots of fun!
