Always within the social norms, extremely reserved lady's companion Miss Emma Chegwidden discovers her inner strength and courage after she accidentally hands her employer a 'gift' and ends up abandoned in a very dangerous land without a penny or friend.Enter an English peer, who has been a prisoner of the 'prince' of the land. He is permitted to join in some social activities and ends up being a hero in a couple different ways - including helping Emma discover some of her own strengths.Romantic, adventurous and subversive activities made this an enjoyable read. Minus a half-star for a few too many plot lags. The characters were well defined with elements of the absurd at just the right moments. I generally enjoy Christina Dodd, this title however was not as enjoyable. This was mainly due to a couple of scenes where the male protagonist has sex with the female protagonist by force - and it is okay because she wants it. The only reason this wasn't date rape was that it would have ruined the story. Bottom line, she said no, he overpowered her. I could never get past this aspect of force between these two characters to enjoy the story. Christina Dodd, I am disappointed in you. You are a better story teller than this.
Not too bad, I enjoyed the flow of the story and the characters.

Too many unpleasant scenes when I actually visualize them.
