5 stars : Want to go camping? This is a sweet concept book with clever illustrations that will encourage children to learn new words and be aware of the world around them. Words are highlighted, ie. UP vs. DOWN and an illustration can bring about a discussion as to the differences in these words.the texture-like drawings add a wonderful whimsy to the world if prepositions and a delightful demension to the wildlife that observes our quartet as they enjoy the outdoors.I have a particular foundness for childrens picture books ( No... Really? ) why yes I do! However this one is rather unique in so many ways. It's got a 40's/60's feel to it yet it's new and fresh at he same time. Obviously Ms. Gal had fun with this, and your family will too, I betcha! Nice title about camping and the outdoors for younger listeners. Heading up to the mountains and going on a hike provides lots of opportunities for prepositional words. LOVE the animals following along behind the hiking family, and the little one who notices and makes friends. Real hiking families will be iffy with the fact that the toddler shares his teddy with a real bear--encouraging or condoning that behavior is not really kosher and can be dangerous. But the illlustrations are expressive, the colors provide a real sense of place, and there's lots to see and talk about.
What do You think about Into The Outdoors (2011)?
This is a teaching book as well for prepositions. We enjoyed the story.
