It's Your Time: Finding Favor, Restoration, And Abundance In Your Life Every Day (2009) - Plot & Excerpts

Times are tough, but they need not be so for you, says Lakewood Church pastor and best-selling author Osteen.. In this latest rendering of the supremely popular message of the power of positive thinking, Osteen uses practical, down to earth language and copious biblical and contemporary anecdotes to demonstrate how to manifest the health and wealth that we are meant to have, as favored children of God. Broadly, Osteen directs the reader to avoid negative, defeatist thoughts and behaviors, to have faith, and to believe that everything is for the best and that one can derive strength from adversity. Osteen exhorts the reader to recognize, seize, and give thanks for the foreordained moments of grace and blessing when they appear. In the meantime, we should do the best that we can, persevere, believe, and "walk toward God's blessings" to eventually prevail. On the surface, there is little to argue with here, and while media pundits and theologians debate Osteen's Prosperity Gospel and logic, it only fans the flames of his popularity. Those seeking hope and optimism during challenging times will be inspired, motivated, and comforted by this book. Recommended for most bookstores and public libraries where Christian and motivational literature. It’s Your Time by Joel Osteen is a religious book that is about God’s favor and blessings coming down on those who may feel down and out. This book speaks to the those going through foreclosure, failed relationships, overwhelming finances and distraught parents or anyone giving up hope. This uplifting book emphasizes believing that it’s time for increase, receiving favor, restoration, and trusting in God in order to build hope and encouragement that things will get better and victory over obstacles will come. There are many things I like about this book. For instance, it gives encouragement to the reader and it increases hope within them to keep pressing forward to a better future. Also, there are many uplifting words and phrases that stress faith, victory, and favor which persuades the reader to hang in there and to never give up. The most rewarding thing about this book is being able to apply it in my own life and to be able to pass that faith and hope on to someone else who is going through the storms of life. Although this book is encouraging and uplifting, it is very repetitive in its diction and message. In almost every chapter the author seem solutions which makes to be referring to the same issues, phrases, and solutions which make the text boring and mundane causing the reader to lose focus. For example, Osteen always mentions problems such as finances, starting a business, family or relationship in just about every chapter. However, it’s even more disheartening that some of his chapters lose touch with the reader because it doesn’t stay focused with the topic of the chapter all the way through. Even though the repetition takes away from creativity from the book, I would consider reading this book again for encouragement and recommending it to a friend who is feeling discouraged. The emphasis of victory and favor created a sense of hope and faith for the future influencing me to not give up and to not throw in the towel. I will certainly look forward to reading more of Joel Osteen’s books because they have a message for my life.
