First Lincoln and now Austen-is no one sacred when it comes to the overused vampire theme? Ironically the book is exactly what Jane complains about in the storyline-a horrible Austen spin off that would have her rolling in her grave. Slow to start, picked up somewhat enough to make me read the sequel. The only positive was the author uses enough bits and pieces from actual history to make it somewhat humorous-i.e. Bryon's bisexuality, the Brontes, etc. Read up on the real lives of the main characters to make the underlying humor more funny if you don't already know about them. Of course I am slightly afraid that the people who aren't literate in lit history will think this book is credible. Scary. Please read a REAL Austen book and don't say "well I saw a movie". Poor, poor Austen. I know there are many mashups and modern day versions of classics out there (some good, some bad) but this one was funny. I love the literary humor, the fantasy element of vampires, the rivalry between Jane and Charlotte, and the zaniness of the story. Yes, Jane should have learned to be more self sufficient by now (and feminists might be angry at her pining for Lord Byron) and I feel bad for Charlotte's negative portrayal, but this was still a funny, witty story. I will read the other two in the series.
What do You think about Jane Beißt Zurück (2010)?
This fun and fluffy read was a Christmas gift -which I read far too quickly. I MUST get book two!
