Only in the furthest recollections does this resemble H.G.Wells Time Machine. There's an orb that sends our heroine to another planet with different species of humans and animals, but that about where the similarities end. This tale is much more fun. Our heroine is a husky, busty biker chick on the lam from the cops when she runs into a cave to hide out. Inside the cave is the glowing orb on a dais, which she of course touches because what the heck, why not? Thus begins her journey to somewhere with "four-armed tiger-men, sky-pirates, slaves, gladiators, and purple-skinned warriors". From other reviews this is a take-off on Edgar Rice Burroughs' A Princess of Mars, where John Carter is a female. Perhaps it is, I haven't read that one. It's a fun adventure to be sure, but it's our heroine's brash attitude and rough speech that keeps me listening. I like this Jane Carver. A fun turn at the John Carter stories, starring an army vet biker chick with a nasty temper who finds herself a "big pink freak" on an alien world with a gravity that makes her the strongest one around. This book is filled with cursing, fighting, double-crosses, cultural dissonance, slavers, warriors, and dirty thoughts (Jane describes herself as having "varied tastes").Not bad, and a fun listen at the very least.
What do You think about Jane Carver Of Waar (2012)?
A fun romp of a story that kept twisting and turning from danger to hazard.

Okay, mostly fun because of having read all of the Barsoom series...
