After a rocky start where I didn't really connect with the characters this story grew on me after a while. With Ms Quick's regular feisty heroine and brooding dark hero, I found myself remembering everything I love about this author. Although there wasn't the humour that appears in her earlier works this was still a fun read. I think all the instances of psychical episodes got a little strange after a while though. And the word psychical is just plain awkward A good paranormal mystery, this is the first book I've read by the author. Evangeline - a paid companion & author - is staying in a country cottage far from London. When her life is threatened, she escapes to Crystal Gardens and meets the owner, Lucas Sebastian, who decides to help her. I enjoyed the characters and the story line is a good one. The only thing that was distracting to me was the repeated use of the word "psychical." Turn to almost any page in the book, there it is.
A little too much going on with treasure hunters, fortune hunters, jealous lovers...
