I just read this today. It made me very uncomfortable at times and I honestly am not sure how I feel about it until I have more time to let it digest. This is NOT a book for children or the weak stomached. It is disturbing at multiple moments, but beautiful at others. There are clearly a number of messages about the human condition centered around decay and the actions and reactions of characters in the work. A masterpiece of creepy fairytale comics. Like the best of Japanese horror manga, it's unsettling and disturbing in a way that made it very uncomfortable for me to even hold the book in my hands, like the pages themselves would rub their misery and evil off on me. To some, this will be an anti-recommendation, and that's fine. This is a very upsetting book—don't start it if you're not ready for that. If you are, however, you'll find gorgeous art, tight and smart writing, and unforgettable scenes.
What do You think about Jolies Ténèbres (2009)?
A lush world, but why are the scenes written like that? Amateur hour.

Creepy, but beautifully drawn and cool original story.
