The distant sounds of boats passing on the lake and twittering of birds hum and soothe my body. I cup water from the pool onto spill it onto my chest and watch it stream off and back into the pool. I look down at my toes which are tingling from the relaxation. I smile as I wiggle the in the water. I feel a presence next to me. I look over and he’s wearing a devilish grin. Uh oh. In one motion, he capsizes my peaceful home, a simple blow up raft, and tosses me into the pool. So much for my moment of Zen. “You ass!” I exclaim, jumping back up for air and splashing him in his stupid face and looking around for my sunglasses which are now sinking to the bottom. He dives under the water and tackles me, pushing me under. He holds me a moment in a brief staring contest while holding our breath under the water until we surface again and gulp the air. He’s still holding me. His hands grip my upper arms with strength and calm. The crystal chlorinated water drip off our faces as he stare into each other’s eyes as the midday sun glare ripples off little waves.
