He stops looking at the screen he was studying and presses a button on the band. He seems to be reading something. When a worried frown draws his dark purple brows together my heart picks up its pace. Something is wrong, I just know it. For the last few hours he’s been in his office acting like he has no intention of leaving. Even though he is strange to me, I like having him around. His presence comforts me. What he said is true. If any other alien had bought me my life would have gone down a horrible path. I shudder at the thought of all of those scary beings milling around the sell-block. When he stands, I get up from the couch. “What’s wrong?” “Nothing for you to worry about. I have to go to work for a little while. I want you to rest while I’m gone.” He grabs me up and sniffs my neck. I inhale his scent and a sense of calm soothes my nerves. He releases me and puts on a pair of sturdy black boots. No socks. I wonder about that but not for long. At the door he turns and looks me over with approval in his eyes.
