The Norths and Dorian, and Mullins too, were sitting in the living room as if they lived in it. And Pam North was talking, with some intensity. “Suppose he didn’t,” she said. “And he didn’t because of the apple. Think how he feels—somebody killed the girl he was in love with and then the police grabbed him and tried to make him talk and wouldn’t give him cigarettes or anything and then they just locked him up and didn’t explain.
