King Cave (2014) - Plot & Excerpts

This is the first book in this series and I loved it from the start. Yes, it has high schoolers in it and I'm not generally a YA reader but it was captivating and trust me, book two is a little too graphic and racy to be considered YA in my opinion. So about the story line, it is new and interesting while being very well written.I can't say enough about the characters. They are so well written that they feel like your own friends. They are flawed and so realistic and the writer gives each one a unique voice and tone that it is easy to "see" them as well as hear them. Not only are they fabulous but their life and adventure is full of joy, heartache, triumph and failure. You'll cry with them and laugh with them.Excellent read - if I could give it six stars I would. The focus of this book is mainly the romance between Ezra and Lily and you would think I would be happy about that. I spent the majority of the first book eagerly awaiting their romance and the first half of this book wishing they would just go back to being (overly touchy) best friends. It was exhausting and their behavior was not appealing to me. I can hear you now thinking “they’re not human, you can’t expect them to act human”. Well, I am human and I’m the book’s audience and commitment appeals to me so I have a valid complaint. I don’t want to be bookwashed into thinking this is romantic behavior. I actually thought the book was wrapping up and was very surprised that I was only at the 50% mark, I was that over their relationship. The second half was more appealing but that ending? ..|.. ..|.. Do I want to go through the first half of this book again? No, I do not. Part of me wishes I hadn’t started this trilogy but I will finish it. Now, I feel the need to read a nice simple romance to cleanse my soul.
