Known To Evil (2010) - Plot & Excerpts

This is the 2nd book in the Leonid McGill series. This time around, McGill is investigating the disappearance of a young woman, in whom a prominent politician has a deep interest in. Within the 1st 50 pages, there is a double homicide, one of these homicides was intended for the missing woman, so the plot thickens and McGill finds himself within a twisted web of many different crimes, hitmen and conspiracies. In the meantime, his son has disappeared with a former sex-slave who is attempting to flee the group that enslaved her, and this group is now trying to find her, endangering the son's life as well.I liked how many of the secondary characters re-emerged in this installment of the series. What I found confusing though, was how many sub-plots there were, and how many different third-tier characters were involved. I got confused at times due to the sheer number of them. I'm not sure how McGill was able to handle all these issues at once or in order, but they all were wrapped up by the last page. McGill continues to be a complex character, and Mosley's descriptions of people and situations is masterful and extremely observant. Looking forward to see what comes next I haven't read a Walter Mosley novel for many years, but heard him on NPR talking about this "new" series about Leonid McGill. I've only read about 10 chapters, but it is wonderful. It makes me want to read the series and reread his first series (which I never finished.) I hope my joy in this book continues.I'm disappointed. The book did not hold up. First, way too busy, and some of the issues too conveniently tidied up in the end. Too many names of people that I just didn't care too much about. And our protag's surges of violence were just annoying. Oh, and the constant commenting on women sexually, and, like Spenser, all the women want this guy. Actually, in Spenser, soon after the first book a lot of that falls by the way side. This just got on my nerves. I'm probably done with the series. Too bad.
