I finished this book, but mostly out of conviction that surely something interesting was bound to happen eventually. It did not.The first half was all the main couple looking after a foundling baby, in excruciating detail. Meanwhile, the supposedly well-travelled man-of-the world hero completely failed to realise that the educated lady he was with was in fact not a servant, even after she described her privileged childhood at length, and mentioned several brothers with army commissions. I guess it's possible he could have thought that her family had since fallen on hard times, but he... didn't actually think that. He just continued to assume she was a servant.Which is about the level of intelligence displayed by both of them through out. I love a good Misunderstanding, but these ones were only achievable by both parties being either woefully thick or low-level assholes. Which is fine, again, but that was clearly not how I was expected to read them. It's also the middle of a series, so I felt I should care about the secondary characters (who presumably had their own books), but I did not.ANYWAY, half way through, her brothers show up, as promised from the start, so I was expecting some drama. Nope. No drama for me, book continued dull straight through to the end.Bah. This book was so boring I almost did not finish it. I have never wanted to finish a book so bad just to be done with it, it was that boring. I kept pushing on hoping it would pick up but no, I'm sorry it did not.On my nook it was 259 pages which might take me 3 or 4 hours to read. This took a month. Lady Sophie Windham, a spinster daughter of a duke tricks her family into believing that she is staying behind at the family town home visiting neighbors after her parents leave for the country house, however she is planning to stay in the town house alone for some "Me Time"Sophie is left with a housemaids abandoned child and a kindly strange man Vim(who happens to know a thing or two about babies) The three are snowed in and the plot turns to crap! In my opinion!!Sophie hides the fact that she's a duke's daughter so Vim wont turn down her late night booty calls and Vim hides his true identity from Sophie, but he answers the booty calls, because it has been so long since he has been with a women, Yet the first time they are in bed to do the do all the way, he ask her to tell him about her brothers...WHAT kind of Bull crap is that??? I did not understand why Sophie would not reveal her true identity to Vim, after he had proposed to her. Yet she was willing to sleep with him again and again. That does not say lady, that says Whore! Oh right she was storing up spinster memories.(give me a break) The dialogue between the brothers was I guess supposed to be witty banter, but it was all quite ridiculous and I never could tell which person was actually doing the talking. I thought this could have been a really good book, but Sophie was stupid, she kept turning down Vim's marriage proposal yet she was so insistent that he take Kit, the abandoned baby she loved, and foster him. If Vim is honorable enough to raise a child why is he not honorable enough to marry, Oh right he is only good for late night creepin.. Anyway I'm ranting. Vim was just as stupid as Sophie, his reason for leaving, and staying away from his responsibilities was so ridiculous that I was sure I read it wrong, Seriously, was this just an afterthought the author decided to throw in the mix??? None of the characters behaved according to the social dictate of that era. Which is why I don't understand why Sophie keeps turning Vim down, She certainly was not behaving as a Dukes daughter when jumping in the sack with Vim every chance she had, even sneeking into his room more than once. Yet when it was found out she had been compromised she still refused Vim's offer.Maybe I should have started with the first book, I don't know. Maybe it is because this book was, according to the author, requested by her editor in October to write a Christmas book . Maybe next time the editor should get the request in by June to give the author more time to write a good story. I usually love Christmas historical romance books. Unfortunately not this one, but apparently a lot of people did enjoy reading this. I was Overjoyed when I finally finished reading this book!
What do You think about Lady Sophie's Christmas Wish (Windham, #4) (2011)?
I really fell in love with Kit...I'd love to fast forward 25+ years and read his story :)
