Last Queen Of England, The (2014) - Plot & Excerpts

Well what a truly gripping read this was from start to finish. I have read Steve's other two books involving the mystery busting legend that Jefferson Tatyte has become but you do not have to have done to fully enjoy all the twists and turns that this book takes. Warning! It is one of those books that you will not be able to put down until you have finished it! I like the introduction of a rival, I'm sure we will be seeing more of Michel Levant. Towards the end of the book things start to connect back to earlier events in the book but you are kept on tenterhooks until the end, and what and ending and cliffhanger! Can't wait for the next instalment. Brilliant. I admit to a prejudice against plots that have to do with solving a riddle, so the odds were stacked against this slow-moving story to begin with. I say slow-moving, although Jefferson Tayte and his new friend Jean are running from people who are shooting at them through most of the book. That's to be expected in a to-formula solving-a-riddle story. There are always bad guys who don't want the riddle solved, or who do want it solved but want to kill the person who solves it once they steal the answer. THE LAST QUEEN seems like sort of a transition novel, written to pave the way to the next book to be written in the series where, hopefully, Jefferson Tayte finds the solution to the mystery of his own family tree. This was the least satisfying of Robinson's genealogical detective stories, and the fact that it took me two weeks to finish it in contrast to my two-day average for most novels, says everything about my enthusiasm. But again, I admit I'm biased against the type of book it was, and disappointed because TO THE DEATH had what, to me at least, were new twists in the literature due to the genealogical factor.

What do You think about Last Queen Of England, The (2014)?

Not my favorite in the series, but still okay. Looking forward to the next adventure.
