Le Freak: An Upside Down Story Of Family, Disco, And Destiny (2011) - Plot & Excerpts
Nile Rodgers reads to have been so fragile and human... he grieved and suffred from a "pretty difficult" so to say, childhood, but he could react becoming a talented musician. And talentd is quite a euphemism. I love the sens of humour he sometimes uses to tell the events - when it's possible. I am proud my music heroes hired him as a producer of their records and I'm glad he's one of their friends.I loved the story behind the making of the We Are a Family Foundation: a good cause for an amazing project. Dick Clark once introduced Chic as "the greatest group nobody knows" and Nile Rodgers admits that he never felt like the star. But he was a star! Who hasn't danced to Le Freak and We Are Family and Everybody Dance and many huge hits you likely didn't know he played a part in?Super-smart Nile tells his story of growing up in the 50s as an asthmatic boy scout, a parochial school attendee "cared for" by junkies and drunks in a world of sex and violence— bounced between LA and NY. As a teen in the 60s, he began his own hippie / crazy / drug-fueled life, often on the street. Along the way, he taught himself guitar and got REALLY good as he proceeded into the 70s, right on time for Disco! And bouts with addictions. After Disco faded he continued with many huge names. Nile Rodgers was center stage in the social and musical transitions of the time. He tells it so well. I'm glad he survived to share it. Tons of great photos too.
