Les Loups De L'apocalypse (2014) - Plot & Excerpts
Okay, Loki's Wolves!I read this book like five months ago, and my first thought was:Serious Percy Jackson influence.No, not really,actually. The plot is completely different, and the book was in a completely different writing style. The thing that really got me was the similarity between the characters from Loki's Wolves and PJO.Matt: Jason Grace, younger and Norse. Fen: Nico, anyone?Laurie: Piper/Annabeth. I thought she could have been better developed.Baldwin: happy satyrReyna: the name just... well... really?Rey and Reyna together: I thought they were similar to the vocaloids. You know, Rin and Len. Overall, I thought it was just way too similar to PJO. The writing tries to be funny at some points but fell flat. I didn't understand the characters' way of thinking. I'm really sorry. I had high hopes for this book. This will be a decent introduction to the Norse gods, but was lacking for me. I teach Norse myths and as I was reading this, I questioned whether it has enough depth to keep my students interested. It has plenty of dialogue, maybe resting too much on it over descriptive narrative or complicated plot twists. Will lend it to a student and see what he/she thinks. For newcomers to Norse myths, I recommend Gods and Heroes by Brian Branston or Myths of the Norsemen by Roger L. Green.

DNF. I was just bored and didn't have the drive to finish it. It wasn't getting any better.
