The third book in this trilogy was my least favourite. The characters weren't as relatable as in the earlier books, and I was much more excited to get glimpses of Lucy & Jeremy and Sophia & Gray than I was in reading about Isabel and Toby. I think this might have been because the writing was more removed - even when we got Isabel's viewpoint, or Toby's, there was still a sense of distance so that I wasn't always sure of their motivations or what they were feeling and that they didn't know one another very well either. For me, the first book in this series is the strongest, and the second is a lot of fun, but this one failed to make me care about the main characters. A disclaimer: I read these books out of order. I started off with #2 in the series, "Surrender of a Siren" and was a bit disappointed at the end by the reaction of the rejected suitor. So, when I read this book and discovered he was the hero, well, I was hooked! Suddenly I wanted to know everything about Sir Tobias Aldridge but also, his past history with Lucy. I appreciate Isabel's ideals but her approach to achieving them is misguided, at best. I wish her family had taken a more active role in the story. Overall, a really enjoyable read and I'm glad that I got to see how the whole series wrapped up.
What do You think about L'idéaliste (2011)?
Not horrible, I just couldn't get sucked into it. Had a hard time connecting with the heroine.
