Lies That Chelsea Handler Told Me (2011) - Plot & Excerpts

I laughed out loud on several occasions and relayed some of the tales to my roommate. Never as funny in my retelling compared to the book. It made doing housework this week a lot more fun (audio book). The 3/5 is because it was hit or miss at times. I almost put a 4 but it wasn't quite there. If you like, Chelsea I think you will enjoy this collection of essays from her family, friends and coworkers. If you don't like her, you won't. If you don't know anything about her, I suggest you read her first book, My Horizontal Life first, and go from there. I borrowed Lies that Chelsea Handler Told Me from a friend, and I enjoyed every second of it! I’ve always found Chelsea Handler to be hysterical on her show, and she proved to be just as hilarious on print when I read her first book a few years ago. This book is a little different because it is a collection of short stories and anecdotes from the people that know her best, her friends, family, and co-workers. This style of book is appealing to me because the voice and story changes every chapter. I was able to put it down and pick it back up without having to re-read to refresh my memory of any important plot points, which suits my currently hectic lifestyle. The authors were all successful in making me laugh out loud. My favorite anecdote came from one of Chelsea’s best friends, Stephanie Stehling. When they were both bridesmaids in a wedding, Chelsea convinced her that the bride was afraid to sing a song to her new husband and needed someone to sing with her. It wasn’t until after the ‘duet’ started, that she realized the bride had no idea what was going on. “Chelsea had even taken me to a karaoke bar to practice, so I felt confident I was going to be an asset to the team--until Rose began singing and I walked out onto the floor behind her, belting out the song.” Stehling’s recollection of her friendship with Chelsea Handler was authentic and very entertaining. This book got me thinking about an idea for a classroom project. Each student could write a short story about an experience they have had, and we could publish a book for the classroom library. The class could even vote on a theme for the book. Although Lies that Chelsea Handler Told Me isn’t age-appropriate for elementary students, I could suggest a comedic theme, and tell the class about a hilarious book of short stories that I once read.

What do You think about Lies That Chelsea Handler Told Me (2011)?
