All sounds cease to register, except for the rush of air in my ears. Everything else—the music, the people cheering, Erin screaming my name—become a vague hum in the background. My stomach stays up on that stage while my body plummets toward the floor. “Holy fuck!” I have no clue if anyone is going to catch me or not. The feeling is both frightening and exciting. It could end in two ways, one ends with cheering and me springing off the floor like a sprite. The other option will make me a permanent grease stain on Ricky's floor. My descent ends suddenly, in a soft thump. Several faces are looking down at me, all smiling, some cheering. They caught me. Thank God! It feels like my heart stopped beating for a while and only just started again. The rush is exhilarating, and I let out a laughing scream of joy. The guys that catch me put me down on my feet and give me congratulatory pats on the shoulder.
