Linchpin: Are You Indispensable? (2010) - Plot & Excerpts
I've read many of Seth Godin's books, and I read his blog every day, so I'm definitely a fan. While his writing is often a little ADHD, his insights are often right on the mark. Even when he wanders with some odd insights, his frequently subversive view of the world will help keep you alert. Linchpin is one of Seth Godin's most well conceived and thorough books. Many of the concepts in the book, like The Resistance, are covered in other books, it's Seth's face that comes to my mind whenever I think about "the lizard brain".If you are looking for a well-researched treatise on the characteristics of the most successful people, you should probably look somewhere else. But, if you are willing to be challenged with bold ideas about standing out in the new economy, you should definitely read this book. This is a book I might have to re-read every year. Interesting concepts on how we can't be the Borg any longer in business. However, Godin's writing style does not provide a logical progression of thought and that gets in the way of picking up his key points. Also, while he spends a lot of time on the inner resistance that a person puts up to stop himself/herself from taking risks, he didn't spend enough time on how to fight the outside resistance of peers and possibly bosses.Still interesting concepts...
