Okies, it's about 3.5 stars, but I'll round up. It was a light and fluffy regency, without the sharp barbs of Connie Brockway or the quick wit of Eloisa James, but more readable than much of the fare. I'd probably shelve it beside Jennifer McQuiston.The story: Ellie Bowman has been friends with Ned, Lord Edward, son of the Duchess of Love, her whole life. And has been in love with him almost as long. She was in love with him when he married her best friend and she was in love with him when his wife and child died during child birth. Four years later, she is still in love with him, but at 26, she's given up hope of him reciprocating, and in order to have her own child, submits to Ned's mother in hopes that his mother will find a match for her.There is never any doubt as to how the story was going to end, and honestly, Ned's father comes across as rather dense when he doesn't see the writing on the wall and his wife has to explain it to him, but the interaction of Ellie with Ned's brothers was fun to see.Also - no epilogue! You have to read the next book to see what happens next.And I will/did. Almost immediately. I think I have found a new favorite historical romance author. I really enjoyed this book and reading more about the Valentine family. I'm a sucker for historical romances and family linked novels so this one was perfect for me. The humor was good and the pacing as well. She also did a good job of planting the seeds for the others in the series as well without leaving too big of a cliffhanger.
