Lunch Lady And The League Of Librarians (2009) - Plot & Excerpts

This is a book that elementary students will enjoy reading, not only from the story line, and pictures but because they might suspect something similar is happening in their very own school!! We met a group that called themselves the Breakfast Bunch. They were attending a book fair to get the new x-station 5000 game system. However they get suspicions and think the librarians are up to something fishy so they decide to investigate. When not serving up French fries and gravy to students, Lunch Lady(the crime fighting hero) and her sidekick Betty escape to their secret kitchen lair to lead the life of a crime fighter. The lunch ladies overhear the breakfast bunch’s conversation and decide they want to help too. They end up discovering the librarians are on a mission to destroy all the video games. This book will have kids on their toes, from the front page to back page, trying to discover if they ever stop the librarians. When telling a third grader about this book, she immediately seemed interested, and eager to read it. I believe this is such an interesting book for kids because it’s so similar to their life now. They are in school, they got through lunch lines, they have book fairs, as well as librarians. Kids have such wide imaginations anyway.During book talk I would simply tell them the basics about of the book without spoiling the ending and have a discussion about it. Have they ever experienced anything like this in their school? Do they think their lunch ladies are secret heroes? Have their librarians ever tried to take away items at a book fair? What would they do in a situation like this? It would be a fun book to discuss, and when flipping through the pages the kids can see the interesting black and yellow color schemes. Another reason I love this book is because it is a series. Reading has always been a struggle for me, however reading something that I’m interested in gets me hooked. Considering this has more than one book to it, it will keep the students interested and wanting more. The school librarians are acting suspicious and it is up to the Lunch Lady and the Breakfast Bunch to find out their secrets. It turns out that the librarians are bent on world domination and are starting by destroying all video games. The Lunch Lady, Terrence, Dee and Hector must put a stop to the librarians’ evil schemes. Part of the Lunch Lady Series this book is great for kids who have suspicions about the staff of their school or who think anyone can be a superhero.
