Well written with likeable, realistic characters. The reason I did not give five stars because I found it a little hard to "believe" that in an almost completely digital world nobody would catch Maddie meeting with Justin and the resistance when she was in the detention center. Otherwise, an enjoyable read and I'm looking forward to reading both her contemporary novel and the third book in the Awaken series. I jumped right into this book without reading the first in the series since I received an ARC of this book as part of an ARC swap. It was nice to discover this was one of those series that you can read and enjoy the second book without knowledge of the first. The characters developed nicely- I loved the simultaneous growth and deconstruction of Maddie. The Detention Center was wonderfully creepy without going overboard in it's psychological torture. Plus the author wraps up the story well enough that I don't feel unfinished without reading the third book but curious enough that I plan to add it to my TBR list.
Another amazing book in this series. The last book is being released on my birthday! Can't wait.
