Married To Bhutan (2011) - Plot & Excerpts

A good feel for what it's like to come from the US to visit Bhutan, get married, and settle down there married to one of the country's best known artists. A great intro for a trip there, and explanation of things we saw and heard during our trip. The style itself is meditative, a series of short stories in which impressions take precedence over events, to make us slow down and appreciate the Bhutanese way of life. Even if you've never heard of Bhutan or you don't have any desire to travel to Bhutan, this book is a beautifully written story of the simplicity of the Bhutanese people. They are considered the happiest people in the world. They live very simple, kind lives and have a great sense of community. We are very privileged to live in America, but with all that privilege, we live very complex and complicated lives. This book reminds us that there may be a way for us to simplify our lives and perhaps be happier while we enjoy the comforts of our American lifestyle. Traveling to Bhutan in October was the motivation to read this book, but I would recommend it to anyone who just wants some inspiration.
