This story is well written, funny, and interesting. However, I had issues with it because of trouble believing in this type of hardwired masochism. Don't get me wrong, I'm a sadomasochist, and know many masochists of varied types. But I have never come across or heard of someone who is aroused by nonconsensual pain caused by an injury like the protagonist's, and I've spent a good bit of time talking to other people into pain! As such, I had trouble suspending disbelief to get full enjoyment out of the story. Because of my bias, I chose not to try to give this story a star rating, but I'd be willing to try out other stories/books by this author. This story is a very good example of prejudice or maybe the fact that we oppose the most to the things that scare us in ourselves.I found it kind of fun the way Sam focused on the beating/abuse as the only thing BDSM is about, to make it easier to reconcile himself with his own dominant nature. Like if you don't beat anybody (even if they want you to) you're not at bad person. But seeing that Charlie found peace and pleasure in being dominated made him change his mind. A little quickly perhaps but it is at short story.
What do You think about Masochism 101 (2011)?
A sweet little love story, BDSM et all.
