With a bashful grin, she returned the kettle to the cast iron stove and scooted around the other bodies. She slipped into the vacant chair. Jasper settled his hands on her shoulders. Cora wrinkled her nose teasingly at him before she turned to Abby. The younger woman's hands were on the table, cupping her tea, and Cora slipped her fingers into one of them. She exhaled and looked straight at Cora. Her expression held none of the sadness and despair that had been etched into her features since that horrible night.
