This slightly melancholy yet warm-and-snuggly story about an elephant who is reluctantly separated from its mother was made all the more heartwarming by Marino's beautiful and expressive illustrations. My mom and I both read this one and agreed it would have been helpful for me back when I would cry my eyes out anytime we had a babysitter...I'll be keeping this one in mind for my future child (assuming they're a clinger like I was). A picture book about a mama elephant reassuring her Little One about how much she loves them, adults and children both will appreciate the sweet story and gorgeous pictures. Mama must go to the mountains to ask the sky for some much needed rain, and Little One is left behind on the African savannah to wait for her. With colorful, two page spread illustrations of African animals and gorgeous African scenes, this book makes an excellent story time or lapsit book. The solid binding and thick pages will hold up well to use and children who need extra reassurance (say, before being left with a baby-sitter) will be particularly drawn to it.
I really loved this. Gorgeous illustrations. I'm into the moon lately, I guess.
