Memoirs Arent Fairytales (2011) - Plot & Excerpts

I rated this a "3" only because I was looking for an ending to the story of addiction. Whether it was a good ending or a bad ending, I felt cheated out of an ending. To be continued.... The whole drug addiction world is maddening and sad. Non-addicts see the common sense where in addicts only operate in one gear. I learned a lot from reading this book from an addict's world. I didn't like what I learned, but I am very glad I read this book. Memoirs Aren't Fairytales was a great book. Marni Mann told her story, exactly how she felt, and the transformation of her heart as she went through this journey of heroin, and love. Her life was completely wrapped around this drug that gave her the complete apathy to strive onward with anything at all. She lost nearly all the people who she loved by either death or they had given up on her. This book was just up the ally of my favorite genre, and it had me completely intrigued. As an aspiring teacher, she began her memoir with her rude awakening a day after a party. She went through trials and tribulations as she began a downward spiral in her drug fantasy. Starting off with pills and marijuana, her needing to quench her thirst for more high was too strong. She began to lose herself, and became careless. She lost people, met people, and had new significant beings in her life. In the end, I absolutely loved this book. It had me on my toes the whole time, and I never put it down. This book opened up my eyes a little, and made me realize life is too good to be wasted. Reading and, in my mind, living what she went through, the way she wrote make me feel the way she felt, see what she saw, and hurt what she hurt.. I highly recommend this book if you are interested in a young woman’s quest to find a middle between sanity and sobriety.
