Another successful humorous picture book by Devin Scillian. Similar in pattern to Memoirs of a Goldfish, this time a hamster relates the routines of his contented life. All is well until he yields to temptation and leaves his cage. Predictably, danger and near-disaster follow. Even though there are no surprises here, the humorous telling and entertaining illustrations make it an engaging read-aloud. A little brown hamster named Seymour is content inside his tank until the family cat tempts him with the wonders outside his cage. When he finally escapes will he see all the wonders he's imagined? Or was it all just a plot to get him out of his cage...A cute little story. The author has a book out from the goldfish's perspective as well, and he makes a cameo appearance in the book. I wonder if we'll see the cat or dog's journal next. I would definitely recommend this for parents and schools with younger children.
Another great story to use as a read aloud when teaching personal narrative.
