When a cat can not sleep because the farm is to noisy the cat plays a trick on all the other farm animals. In the end the animals seek revenge on the cat. I really enjoyed reading the book. This would be a great book to read aloud because students would love all the different animal noises. The pictures are fun and follow the story very well. I think students any were from preschool to second grade would like this book. I generally like silly barnyard picture books where the animals switch sounds. There were a few things that didn't work for me in this title. If a book is going to rhyme, I like the rhyme to enhance the story. With this one, the rhyming felt forced, like it was getting in the way. It was particularly jarring when the rhymes were not exact. Spoiler! So, the cat is responsible for all of the animals switching noises. Apparently, he can do magic. I like magic in books, but this felt, well, forced again. Poof! A magic cat! How handy for animal sound silliness. A little too handy for me. And why does the cat change the sounds of the animals? Because the farm is too noisy. And how does changing all the sound around affect the noise level? Not at all, apparently. When in need of an silly switching animal sound book, my current favorite is "The Little Rabbit Who Liked to Say Moo" by Jonathan Allen. I also like "This Little Chick" by John Lawrence and "Bark, George" by Jules Feiffer
What do You think about Miaow Said The Cow (2009)?
A cute story with the Cat having magical powers and changing the voices of the farm animals.
