I have read this book, and listened to it on CD too. Loved both. But I am not real happy with this graphic-novel adaption.Let me begin by saying I certainly enjoyed the effort and talent that went into producing this book. The detail and quality of the artwork is certainly makes one aware of the difference between a "comic book," and a "graphic novel." And the plot is carefully rendered to keep it as close to the original novel as possible. But....This is a readers novel. The descriptions of the financial miss-managing which is so intrinsic to the story are carefully explained in the novel. And so are the ways Uncle receives the mysterious dried flowers every year on his birthday. And so are other elements of the story. They are mentioned in the graphic, but so much of the details are missing. You get the smell of the cooking, but never the taste. I liked this version a lot! I love graphic novels and being that I had a hard time reading the original book due to its wordiness and legal jargon. I read about half way through before giving up. The graphic novel was made for people like me who don't have the energy to decipher what the author is saying and just want a good story with strong characters. WARNING: there is a rape scene like in the movie and yes it is graphic! I personally have a hard time with rape scenes and just skipped it.
Absoulutely loved every bit of it!! Great story and the pictures are beautiful!
