Mommywood (2009) - Plot & Excerpts

I didn't like Tori Spelling before I read this. I still don't like her. I won't go into why I decided to try this book, but I will say that I am not surprised by how disappointing it was. She appears to be trying to live a normal life, but her idea of normal is twisted. And all the drama with her mom...we get it, you thinks she was a terrible mother. But based on what I read in this book, I think it was her dad who drove a wedge between them and made it difficult for her mother to love her the way she wanted to be loved. She should have some compassion for her mom and realize her dad was no saint. I was going to give this book one star based on all the eye rolling I did while reading it, but decided it was worth two stars because the poop in the pool scene made me chuckle and I do appreciate that she is respectful of her stepson and husband's ex. Reading this book is like chatting on the phone with your girlfriend! It makes Tori Spelling instantly friend material. It wasn't quite as interesting as reading sTori Telling mainly because it didn't cover as much time. But enjoyable all the same. How refreshing to read that a celebrity has so many of the same feelings that we have, that they are normal in an abnormal way, they are just people like you and me. She has the same crazy mommy experiences that we all have. It does, though, make me sad to think of how much fear she is constantly living in, fear of dying or being sick, fear of being judged (which is a legitimate fear for a celebrity, but not quite to her extent), fear of practically everything. I wish for her that she could just find her own confidence in who she is, the mom and woman that she has become and not worry so much about what everyone around her thinks. But isn't that our hope for each and every one of us!
