Mortal Remains. Kathy Reichs (2011) - Plot & Excerpts

I was hoping I would enjoy this series and continue, but if this book is an indicator of other works....God save me. First, the entire thing was sooo overdone...guess if you have three or 4 meager ideas for a book and none of them singly are strong enough...you just roll them all together, place them in at least 3 different locations, across a period of 40-odd years, and then link them all together by the end of the book....it's ready for the press! But just to be sure....lets add in a genetic rarity to top it all off. And don't get me started on how many times some/every male in the area is waiting his opportunity to express his desire to jump Miss hotty Temperance's sweet bones....there was one good thing tho, we never had to read about that actually happening...just threw it in every other chapter for good measure. What a waste of mind, paper, and time. I picked this book up in my favorite cafe where you could exchange books. (You know what I mean. People put books in a basket and you change a book of your own for one from the basket) I didn't really read the back, but it was an English book and looked kind of interesting. I had never read a forensic thriller before so I did not know what to expect going in.I'm not going into a summary of the book as I'm sure you can find one yourself (and I am just too lazy). Not ever read anything like this, I could not immediately get into the book. The subject of the first few chapters did not exactly ease me into it either. However, after a while the book grew on me and I was eager to read a few chapters whenever I had time. What I enjoyed about this book was that it was something different, but it was great. The many arches and theories had me guessing and I never would have predicted how it all turned out. What was less enjoyable about this book were the many abbreviations. I could remember about half of them and that made the story hard to understand on many occasions. I also got the cases and persons messed up more than once.Overall, I loved this book and I will definitely read more of this series (maybe starting with book 1 - seems only right after book 13, right?). However, I am confused as to why my copy of this book is called "Mortal Remains" when on Goodreads it is called "Spider Bones". Help me out here.

What do You think about Mortal Remains. Kathy Reichs (2011)?

deciding to read this book after watching the TV show Bones was a little confusing as the characters were different, I did expect that though. I really enjoyed all the twists and turns in the book , I honestly felt like I was watching Bones as it was full of all the usual humour, twists, turns and all the technical jargon that comes hand in hand with being a forensic anthropologist. thinking of going back in the books and reading Deja Dead next.

I was very disappointed with this one! I really like the books, but this one seemed to be missing a real story. I realized when I was more than half way through it, that I still didn't know much more than what was on the back cover. Not much happens and what does happen is a strange mix of info on Hawaii, long lost soldiers and then suddenly gangs and drugs..I wouldn't recommend this to anyone, unfortunately!

Bit boring at the start but got better at the end. Extremely confusing, but I think I got it.
