Mustaine: A Heavy Metal Memoir (2010) - Plot & Excerpts
Even in his own memoir, Mustaine comes off as a petty immature whiner with no idea what parts of his life people would actually find interesting. There is so much more talk about taking drugs and beating people up with his martial arts training than anything about actually making records or playing shows. And it's pretty disturbing how, even now, looking back, Mustaine seems to think the fact that he beat people up whenever they disagreed with him means he was right. What a bully. It's hilarious how big of a narcissist Dave is; just when you think he couldn't be more delusional he manages to surprise you. Not to say he's not self-deprecating - he drags everyone through the mud, including himself. Somehow he always comes out on top, though.Like a real rock star bio (I would assume, I haven't read that many) there's not much focus on the music. For each paragraph about an album there's 2-3 pages about drugs/rehab. It gets old after a while, but I guess some people would disagree.
