My Life, Deleted (2011) - Plot & Excerpts

Let me begin by saying i do not recommend tjis book. I have a family member with TBI and I thought this book would be helpful. Sadly, I learned very little and gave it 2 stars instead of 1 only because I learned that there's a test brain injury can be detected with, even though it doesn't show up on an MRI. This book is told entirely from Scott's perspective, even though his wife was a co-author. As the family member, I wanted to hear her feelings. Instead, everything just seemed to work itself out without much struggle. I'm sure that's not the actual case--but rather the result of very poor storytelling. There is also so much time spent on the son's drug problem. And even though this poor kid also had a TBI, the family didn't seem to ever take this into account when dealing with his drug use. I think 2 stars is probably generous. How awful it would be to fall and lose all of your memory as a result. Scott Bolzan manages to convey the bewildering sense of not even knowing who your wife of twenty-five years is, and indeed, not even sure of what the word, wife means. As his story unfolds, we come to understand how frustrating it would be to have to relearn everything you once knew. Well written, and honest, this is a memoir that helps one to understand just how frail our memories really are.
