My Own Kind Of Freedom: A Firefly Novel (2008) - Plot & Excerpts
Characterization felt spotless and consistent. Storyline was clear and well paced. There was enough intricacy to prevent a linear flow to the story without getting in it's own way. It read like an episode of the series, but if shot would lose a lot of the flavor that Steven added with the character insights, especially with River and Wash. It was good to get a dose of the series again. The beginning was amazing. The characterization was definitely there, and it was great. The story sounded just like a Firefly adventure. However, as the story went on, it became more of a script with NO tags, which made it horribly confusing. And some of the facts were wrong. If I remember right, Wash was never in the army (as shown in War Stories), yet within the first few chapters, Wash is remembering his own war adventures as a pilot. Maybe I'm mistaken and it's not him in the war, but War Stories is my favorite episode and I would like to defend. Couldn't finish.
