I have a confession about this book...I didn't finish it. I'm still going to count it towards my reading goal this year thou, because I suffered through 188 pages of the stinking thing before I gave up. To those who enjoyed the book, please remember that my comments are just my opinion. If you loved the book, great, happy for you, but for me it just did not work. What didn't work for me, lets see... I'm used to female leads with body image issues, but this one seemed even excessive to me and I'm obese with horrible body image issues. Also she was also probably the weakest female lead that I have read in a while. The male lead was just written awkward for me. I understand he doesn't speak the language and is from a different time period, but it just didn't ring true to me. My husband's first language isn't English and the idea that a person could pick up everything over night from a dvd or reading just seemed a stretch even thou I know it is a paranormal, it bent reality just a little too far for me. Also some of the phrases like 'man lance' and the insults the small fairy came up with were just awful, even for a book that I knew was going to be fluff when I picked it up. I guess I was just expecting more... Interesting story line... banished warriors...cursed dragons.... pretty decent concept. The over all story wasnt bad.. in fact it would have been really killer.... but Bastian Dragonelli... this badass dragon warrior... keeps refering to his um...manly parts.... as his 'man-lance' or 'man-spear'. Which... kinda makes you snicker and would be forgivable. But a prehensile penis???? Really? I couldn't stop laughing...and not in a good way. It totally ruined the one love scene since the heroine... McKenna is talkin about how it's wrapping around her hand. *shakes my head* Over all, its a really good book; great concept and some really entertaining snicker-out-loud scenes as poor Bastian attempts to adjust to life as a human. I would have rated it better... but that love scene....ack.... So a solid 3 stars.
