Nervous (2004) - Plot & Excerpts

I would categorize Nervous as the weakest of Zane's novels if I hadn't read Shame on It All. Nervous was original part of a short story Zane had written for an anthology, but it later developed into a full-length novel. Twenty-something Jonquinette suffers from Multiple Personality Disorder [MPD] and her alternate self "Jude" has repeatedly gotten Jonquinette in trouble. However, Jonquinette is completely unaware of Jude's actions, including the multiple (and seemingly) unprotected sexual escapades. Now, I am not an expert on MPD and I understand that with a certain income it might be difficult to get your child the help that they need, but the fact that Jonquinette did nothing about this for years just seemed out-of-place. These black-outs first started when she was a kid and then Jude would beat up or attack bullies who assaulted Jon. Yes, a child will often say "I didn't do it" when they are caught red-handed, but this went on for years. Not to mention if I woke up with sperm on me and knowing myself to be a virgin, I'd be calling the police, hospital, somebody. I also find it hard to believe that with all the men she has been sleeping with no one caught on to this sooner. Half the sex scenes in this book take place in public venues and if they are as intense as the writing makes it seem, they weren't quiet. I could not suspend that much disbelief. As for the story, it just got more and more melodramatic as it went along, the revelation about the father was just so-so over the top I couldn't help but roll my eyes. Nervous lacked the corny-sweetness of Afterburn and the realistic pain of Addicted. All-in-All, I would not recommend it as one of Zane's best.

Book review(Nervous)tI just recently read a book entitled Nervous. The author Zane wrote this book. This novel is a bout a girl named Jonquinette who keeps waking up and not knowing what she did the night before. Well getting deeper into this book I found out that she has a split personality, a girl named Jade. Jade is the total opposite of Jonquinette. I enjoyed this book, because it had a lot of twist and turns and it kept reveling new things, as you got deeper into the book. Also, this was one of those books where it told the story from different points of view. I liked this because it gave the whole story from every character’s point of view.tFor example, the book first started out with the main character Jonquinette’s point of view. Then it went into how her other personality Jade’s story and what she does when she takes over. I liked this since it isn’t just giving the main characters point of view and story, so that the reader isn’t confused about what is going on. The book also, gave the point of view of the psychiatrist that Jonquinette went to go see. This character was based on a character from another previous book entitled Addicted.ttIn conclusion, this would be a good book to read if you are interested in books that will keep you on the edge of your seat and make you not want to put it down. I recommend this book to anybody who is looking for a book to read that will have you trying to figure it out the whole time you are reading.

What do You think about Nervous (2004)?

I've just read my first trashy erotica novel. I went in knowing little about sexually explicit books only to be vicariously involved in a multi partner, Internet abusing, pan Georgian, sexual orgy. The sex was hard and fast, happening in three paragraphs or less and kinda scary and kinda interesting. I read Nervous because several people have posted comments that if only the world would read more trashy erotic novels war and poverty would cease to exist. I don't know where they got their facts from but with that in mind I decided to read this book by Zane. Chapter 1 starts out innocently as Jonquinette thinks about how nervous she is about everything in her life. Followed by chapter 2 of her alter ego Jade (Jonquinette has a split personality) getting it on fast and crazy back alley style. That's the rest of the book. A chapter of sweet, naive Jonquinette living her life afraid of sincere guys followed by a chapter of Jade gone bonkers looking to get it on before her chapter ends. I was really impressed with Jade, sometimes she only had 5 pages to find a guy convince him she didn't have any STD's and get busy. Oh yea then there was some character development throughout but I think its more of a side note until the end.Speaking of which, candidly I didn't see the twist at the end coming. I was surprised. Hopefully you will be too if you have a chance to read Nervous.

Decent story and the heroine was well developed and a total trip, but I think switching to the psychiatrist POV so late in the story was taking the easy way out. There was also bad editing because at the start of the story the heroine's father lives in Raleigh, NC and at the end the name of the town changes to Trinity and there was no mention of him moving. Raleigh, which happens to be the state capital, is not the backwoods hick town that is portrayed to be. Her going into a redneck bar and encountering racism would have been much more believable if the father lived on the other side of the state. The triad area is probably the most racially diverse part of my home state. I'm just amazed that all that was not cleared up with the editing process.

"this is one of the best books ive ever read because even thought it has a lot of sex in it, it has also taught me alot about having MPD"my outake on this book dealing with conflict is that the internal conflict that she faces with her multiple personalities is one of the toughest conflicts in a book that i have ever read. She has to deal with not only the challenges of her daily life but she also had to deal with the damage that her other persdonalities were giving her such as; waking up with her vagina hurting and not knowing how that happen. in her concious mind she was still a virgin. she had to deal with people coming to her and telling her about situations that she caused when she didnt even know what they were talking about. she had to deal with external and internal conflicts and her other personalities did not allow her to get help from anyone else. anyone who got close to her was destroyed quickly. this has to by far the toughest conflict that a person should have to go through.
