Puffin is there with the sharp-tongued hummingbird Ruby, and admirable friend Egbert the know-it-all walrus.But this peaceful environment is about to change, when Rozbell, the newly crowned king of the Owl Parliament, is dealing with a famine on Tytonia, the mainland, while he has long had his scheming eyes on the small colony to the northwest. What a wonderful middle grade novel! I learned of auks of all sorts, puffin stories of Yore, and how species can learn to live together and respect each other. Lockley and Lucy are an inspiring couple who face hardships and challenges, Ruby the hummingbird in impatient and courageous, Egbert grows is wisdom, bravery, and understanding. A fun and exciting book. Boy-friendly, but a reluctant reader might need encouragement when Egbert gets on a roll or the settings and characters change quickly. Recommended for girls and boys, though. Thoroughly enjoyable! I received the book through a GoodReads giveaway (its on my "first-reads" shelf when that happens) and am ever so glad I entered and was able to receive this author-autographed copy and can share it with youth at the library! It's too cool a book to stay on my shelves, I'm donating it and recommending it!
