Not Dead And Not For Sale (2011) - Plot & Excerpts

This was a hard one to rate... On one hand - I loved STP, a few songs from Velvet Revolver, and Mary's book. Mary's book had me in tears and laughter - she painted a beautifully tragic story and I connected with that book like no other biography or autobiography. I connected with her...This book had some moments that were fun to read but it seemed it lacked so much emotion... which is ironic for the fact that his songs are so filled with raw emotion. I felt where Mary had opened her soul - he wrote this book as a "my side" which he is entirely entitled to... but his somewhat failed... but then again, I wanted to hear his side of what had happened in the Mary and Scott love story in words that were written better. For a poet and song writer I was astonished I wasn't more transfixed on his story. Three stars is giving the book a higher rating due to the fact of the emotional tie I have with his music and Mary's book... and maybe that's just it - this book wasn't as good as his music. In his music, he opens up and gives all - he shares his soul. The song Fall to Pieces is by far one of my all time favorites due to the fact it's about a relationship that just fell due to drugs ... and the video for it made me cry... and that is what is missing here... the raw emotion - this felt like it was a lengthy story outline. He lived so much, saw so much, and did so much - you would think his book would tell so much... and then on the other hand, just because he is in the limelight and puts a book out doesn't mean he needs to share all ... Like I stated - it was a hard choice between two or three stars. This book was better than Stephen Adler's book by far and I felt just as disappointed with it as I had with Slash's... Terrible. The worst autobiography I have ever read. It jumps around A LOT. You really have to work to make sense of where you are in the book. It feels like the book was a last minute thought, and the deadline was the next day. Very poorly written with sloppy editing. I am happy that I only paid $2.99, and not the full price that Amazon was offering it for a week ago. I would save the $2.99 and the 2 hours you'll lose reading this book, and just Google him. Nothing in this book is enlightening, insightful, or something you haven't already seen in the headlines. Seriously a waste of time.
